Gardening in The Villages
Posted on by Lee in Clubs, Villages Information
Unlike "up north", gardening in central Florida can be a year-around pleasure.
And, we are fortunate to have lots of able and ready gardening resources accessible throughout every month.
There are, course, several permanent gardening clubs in The Villages. For example, The Villages Rose Club is in its sixth year. Members enjoy varied programs which normally include a presentation and often a demonstration followed by an opportunity for members and guests to ask their "rose" questions.
The The Villagers Rose Club now meets the third Wednesday monthly at 9 a.m. at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
Questions? Call Nancy Stout 352-259-7604.
Gardeners in The Villages (and future gardeners) should also consider the "twice Tuesdays" program, held every month on the fourth Tuesday at 9 am at Savannah Center and 1 pm at SeaBreeze Rec Center. Call the Sumter County Extension Ofice at 793-2728 and ask about the Twice Tuesday Plant Clinic.
Finally, The Villagers Master Gardeners and the extension agents from the University of Florida sponsor monthly plant clinics from 1 to 3 pm on the first Thursday each month.
Admission is free and gardeners may arrive any time between 1 and 3 because this is an "open clinic". Leaders ask that you bring a plant specimen or a clear picture of your concern.
Where? Sterling Heights Recreation Center.
