Posted on by in Entertainment, General Info, Resources

Shopping in The Villages involves maneuvering through its many recreation centers. A master planned retirement community of approximately 75,000 people, The Villages is divided into 10 separate recreation centers. They are Mulberry Grove Plaza, Spanish Springs, La Plaza Grande, Rolling Acres Plaza, Buffalo Ridge, Southern Trace, Lake Sumter Landing, Spaines Plaines, Colony Plaza and the newest square Brownwood Paddock Square. An 11th recreation center, Antrim Dells, is currently under development. Shopping destinations in The Villages range from quaint boutiques in town squares to many of the national brands we know and love.

Outlet, grocery, home improvement, pharmacy and clothing stores can all be found in The Villages with most of the smaller centers are anchored by the grocery store Publix. Of those that are not, La Plaza Grande is anchored by Belk department store and Buffalo Ridge is centered around a Wal-Mart superstore. The two main shopping squares are Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter Landing.

Spanish Springs Town Square
With its southwestern look and feel, the Spanish Springs Town Square is littered with Spanish decorum. Highlights include the Church on the Square, the Rialto Theater, the monthly classic car Cruise-In and the free entertainment located on the square each and every night

Lake Sumter Landing Market Square
A colorful waterfront setting reminds folks of quaint seaside villages and simpler times. The lighthouse on Lake Sumter has become something of a landmark – except that instead of signaling to boats that they are approaching the coast, the lighthouse signals food, fun and free nightly entertainment. The Market Square is home to the Old Mill playhouse movie theater, a variety of boutiques and restaurants.

Some of the most popular shopping and dining locales in The Villages include Natural Discoveries, Donnelly Euro Footwear, Sakura Sushi & Grill, T.G.I. Fridays, Sonny’s BBQ, Cody’s Original Roadhouse, All Occasion Events, Gator’s Dockside, Lollipop Land and Coldwater Creek. The two primary grocery stores are Winn Dixie and the aforementioned Publix. Due to its overwhelming number of golf courses, one of the most unique features about this city is that you can do all your shopping on golf carts. It is estimated that there are roughly 40,000 golf carts in The Villages.
